We are not “there” yet, but I do feel we are our way toward finding our new normal. Things will likely never be the same after our experiences with COVID-19, but I do believe that we will come out of this experience stronger and with a clearer understanding of God’s call on us as individuals and as a community of faith.
Many of you have already joined us in person for worship on Sunday morning. For those who are still uncertain about gathering in larger groups, please know that you are in all our prayers as we all navigate this recovery at our own pace. Even as we gradually add in elements of worship, we are listening carefully to the guidance we are receiving from the denomination, CDC, and local health department to do our best to ensure safety for our community.
As we have begun our transition back to in-person worship, we will be ending the weekly GoToMeeting worship option. We will still be streaming the entire service to Facebook Live, which should be available to anyone regardless of whether you have a Facebook account. We are continuing to work to improve the quality of our live-streamed service and I am thankful for a generous donation from a member of the congregation which has allowed us to purchase some camera equipment and software to make livestreaming a possibility.
With overall safety in mind we have decided to make some changes to our traditional plans for Freedom Sunday Celebration on July 5th. Weather permitting, we do plan on worshipping outside at the pavilion. However, we will not have our traditional meal following worship. We feel it is simply too soon for us to spend that much time in proximity with one another and the risks are too great. If you would be comfortable sitting in the grass under the tree, you are welcome to bring your lawn chairs to worship. We would like the pavilion to be available for the members of our community for whom exposure to the sun is dangerous. In order to provide sufficient space for physical distancing, we will be moving the tables from under the pavilion and setting out chairs for seating. Currently, we are planning for July 5th to be the first time we resume singing together as a congregation. Because we will be outside and have sufficient air flow, the risks of are greatly decreased.
We will have missed several opportunities to celebrate together as a congregation by the end of July. Therefore, we are planning a Summer Celebration on August 2, 2020! We will again worship outside, celebrate mothers, fathers, and graduates, and have a meal together. The board is still working out the details for this event, but we wanted you to be able to put it on your calendar!
Last, but certainly not least, Education Chair Tammy Fisher, is excited about offering Vacation Bible School in just over a week! VBS will be held at the church on Saturday, June 26th from 9am to 3pm. Tammy does need a head count of kids who are planning on attending, as well as needing several volunteers to help make the day a success. If you are planning on bringing a participant, or are willing to help, please contact Tammy as soon as possible!
Thank you all for your continued support and dedication as we journey together with God.
